Gau Seva Donation on Gopastami
It is stated in the Karttika-mahatmya section of the Padma Purana:
suklastami karttike tu smrta gopastami budhaih
tad-dinad vasudevo ‘bhud gopah purvam tu vatsapah
On the ashtami tithi of Sukla Paksha in the month of Kartik, when the Lord took the calfs for the first time for grazing at a very young age, and on the same day after a few years he took out the cows for grazing. Therefore this festival is celebrated as Gopashtami.
As Lord Krishna himself worshiped the cows on various occasions like Gopashtami and Govardhana-puja, people should worship the cows and protect them as well.
ISKCON Vrindavan celebrates Gopastami at Goshala, which is the home for 650 indigenous breed of cows, by performing Go-puja on this day. Devotees feed, bathe and clean the cows and the Goshala.
